Pyramid Village: an eco village at the foot of Rtanj

A seasonal eco village in Ilino, at the foot of Mt Rtanj. Power is solar, drinking water comes from refill stations around the village, and every season we build the village further with volunteers and guests. From May to October people camp, hike, meditate, celebrate and look at the stars here.

How the village began

Pyramid Village grew out of the Pyramid Festival. The meadows under Rtanj, a festival for a few days a year, became a place that lives all season: with a camp, a kitchen, workshops, retreats and a crew that comes back every spring to build it further.

How the eco village works

Power comes from the sun, drinking water is available at refill stations around the village, and shower water runs through a biofilter. The toilets are dry compost toilets, waste is sorted and food is bought from local producers. The village is on the map of the Global Ecovillage Network.

Who lives in the village

During the season the village is run by a crew who live here from spring to autumn, with volunteers from Serbia and around the world. Guests come for a weekend, a retreat or the festival, and many return every year. That is what we call Rod: kin and return.

Values

What the village stands on

Rod

Kin and return. People come back here every season.

Earth

Nature is the host. We build so the meadow stays a meadow.

Built together

The village is made by the hands of people who live here in the season.

Presence

Clear heads and unhurried time.

The heart of the meadow

The old pear tree

In the middle of the most beautiful meadow in the village, looking straight at Rtanj, stands an old pear tree. People have bonded with it for years: first they left their belongings and gifts on it, and today it is the great altar of this place.

For us the pear tree stands for our bond with our ancestors, to whom we are grateful that we are here, in this very place, witnessing everything that happens on this meadow. It reminds us that we are neither the first nor the last, and teaches us to look both back and ahead.

When you come to the village, stop by.

Every evening

The golden hour in the village

The village sits so that before sunset the light pours straight across the meadows and the grove. For half an hour the whole camp glows gold: the shade sails, the tents, the people and the dust in the air. It is a moment the village waits for, best watched from the meadow facing Rtanj.

Presence

Unhurried time

There are no crowds or pressing schedules in the village. There are morning circles, silence on the meadow and evenings by the fire, and Rtanj is always there, above it all.
